Drawing trees with the Artist in Residence

This blog post is actually from way back in the fall, and I'm just now getting around to posting it.  The elementary school had a fantastic artist in residence this fall who taught the kids all sorts of things about painting the beautiful surroundings (forest, muskeg) that we live in.  She really focused on going outside and working on your observation skills to help with drawing and painting.

On our nature walk to observe colors and shapes.

One of my favorite things was that she had the kids use their bodies to learn about the 3 main kinds of trees that we see up here.  This is the spruce.

The droopy hemlock

And the pine!

Then they went back and did paintings of the different tree shapes.
