Hindsight is 20/20

The other day we were writing letters and shapes in shaving cream. I'd never actually done this with my kids so I definitely didn't foresee all the issues that might arise from this activity. Now I know that this activity is kind of like the ocean: you NEVER, EVER turn your back on it. I turned away for what seemed like seconds and turned back around to find this:

So lots of lessons were learned today in addition to how to write some letters and shapes.

Biking buddies

Biking has finally, finally taken off in our household and so playdates often feature breakneck speed races all over the parking lot nowadays. Thankfully we've had a very dry fall that has allowed us to have many fun bike breaks during our school day and after. They can't seem to get enough of it. Hooray!

Here's the Little Sweetie in her clown suit with her "bike". She's pretty convinced this is her bike and when we say we're going out to ride bikes she grabs this immediately.

Summer 2010: Anne's view of Raven's Roost

One of the first hikes Anne and I did together was Raven's Roost (the lower portion). On this hike we took our kids and the Ward kids. Anne got some really precious shots of the little hikers.

Here's Ty in his bubble suit, looking like an adorable little Oompa Loompa.
Happy to be hiking and not in the backpack!
"Yes, I can keep up with the big boys, Mom!"

Summer 2010: Anne's view of Man Made Hole

Here are some pictures taken by Anne Hurni, who is a wonderful photographer. These pictures were taken after one of our hikes when we went to eat and play at Man Made Hole.

I love this view of the Little Sweetie: she's totally a girl with her bow and pink shirt and totally at home in the mud and sand!

Mr. T, too, is pretty happy when he's wet and muddy!

Little Sweetie exploring the edges of the pond.

Mr. T could throw rocks into water all day long!
This is such a beautiful shot of our friend Becky's daughter.

Oregon trip: new babies on the way!

We took these priceless pictures of my brother in law Brian and my cousin Paul imitating their very expectant wives Julie and Dawn at Grammy Gotter's 80th birthday party. Since that time, baby Grace has been welcomed into Paul and Dawn's family and Julie and Brian should be welcoming baby "Rocky" any day now.

Oregon trip: Sue Mimi's new baby chicks

Sue Mimi always has many special surprises planned for her great grandkids when they noisily come to the Farm (special yogurts, Moose tracks ice cream, organic everything etc.) but this year she outdid herself: she hatched 3 chicks! This meant not only waking at various points during the night to care for them but also rotating their boxes from inside to outside, feeding, cleaning and caring for them from hatching to the day (a few weeks later) when she said, "They're going out to the henhouse! They're on their own!!" There aren't many great-grandmas who would specially hatch 3 chicks just to give her great grandkids an amazing, unique experience. Thank you, Sue-Mimi! We love you!

We actually got to see the eggs when they were unhatched, but you could hear the babies peeping inside. These pictures were taken just shortly after they finally hatched.
